Friday Night Fights: THUNDERSTORM! Prize Fight - You Know What Happens To A Giant Robot When It Gets Hit By Lightning?

At first my jaw dropped when I read the rules to the FNF: THUNDERSTORM! Prize Fight, particularly when I read this:

  • every fight should reference some kind of severe weather.

The reason for my reaction? Because I had just posted a fight that was a perfect fit for those qualifications. In Round 12. Needless to say, I was struggling to come up with another appropriate fight....until I remembered the heroine whose codename is synonymous with severe weather....LITERALLY.

Tonight's tempestuous tussle comes from Uncanny X-Men#98, written by Chris Claremont and illustrated by Dave Cockrum and Sam Grainger. Synopsis: The X-Men are enjoying Christmas in downtown New York when they are attacked by Sentinels. Here, Ororo Munroe aka Storm charges into battle. But before she can face the deadly robots, she must first rescue an imperiled teammate.

That's why.

Ok, Ororo's mad now. Which means: Watch out, Sentinel!

Ok, Spacebooger, is that enough of a severe weather reference for you?

Scott, you're a buzzkill.

Yeah, chill out, Scott!

Tonight's prizefight is this inclement anthem by the Kooks.

Friday Night Fights: Thunder - Round 12: Ride The Lightning!

Since this bout of Friday Night Fights is called "Thunder", what better way to conclude it than with some thunder and lightning?

Tonight's forecast calls for some Flash flooding, courtesy of Adventure Comics#466, written by Cary Bates, pencilled by FNF favorite Mike Nasser and inked by Vince Colletta. Synopsis: After years as one of the Flash's deadliest Rogues, Mark Mardon aka The Weather Wizard suddenly and inexplicably decides to be a hero and use his Weather Wand's powers for good, performing feats like using a tornado to stop a plague of locusts. The Flash deduces that a recent increase in sunspot activity has affected the wand, transforming Mardon's personality. However, there's a huge problem.

In his sunspot-triggered dementia, the Wizard thinks he's helping drought-stricken Central City with a rainstorm when he's actually flooding it with a raging storm.

So how will Flash stop him?

Tonight's fight music is this electron-charged number by Metallica.

Friday Night Fights: Thunder - Round 11: Robbery, Assault, And Battery!

For tonight's round of Friday Night Fights: Thunder I'm going with a little "battle of the sexes" action, courtesy of Anti-Hero#4 by Jay Faerber and Nate Stockman. Synopsis: Low-level mobster Callum Finney has accidentally discovered the secret identity of the superhero Paragon, so of course he immediately blackmails the hero into working for him using a different costume and the name Bludgeon. Callum orders Bludgeon to rob an armored car, but there is one complication, and her name is Power Girl...., that is. War Chest.

Jeez, a little on the nose there, aren't we, Jay Faerber?

Let that be a lesson: Power Girl War Chest ain't havin' your chauvanist B.S.!

And neither is Spacebooger!

For tonight's tale of robbery, assault, and battery, my fight music is going to be....well, what else?

Now go over and vote!
