Friday Night Fights: Fight Life - Round 5: Father-Son Beating!

For tonight's round of Friday Night Fights: Fight Life, I'm picking a touching father-son moment from Invincible#12, by Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley. Invincible aka Mark Grayson is the son of Nolan Grayson aka Omni-Man, the top hero on Earth. Here, Nolan has just informed Mark that he is actually on Earth to prepare it for takeover by Nolan's home race, the Viltrumites, and that he wants Mark to join him in this endeavor now that Mark's powers have manifested.

Mark does not take this news well.

Unfortunately, while Mark's powers have continued to develop, he's not as strong as his dad yet. Meaning he's in for a serious ass-whupping.

Now, I just started reading the INVINCIBLE series last year and have caught up on many back issues from all points in the series, and one nagging question keeps running through my mind.. At this point in Invincible's history, this is his first fight with a fellow Viltrumite or anyone else at this power level. He would go on to battle these types of foes repeatedly, so the question I keep asking myself is: Why does he keep wearing goggles? Sure, they look cool, but every time he fights someone on his power level, whether he wins or loses, they keep getting shattered into little bitty pieces. So why keep wearing them?
